Fairhaven CE VA Primary School
The South Walsham village school, Fairhaven Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, is a co-educational school for children aged between four and 11. The school has some 100 pupils and still operates from its original but much extended buildings, founded in 1865. With many rural schools threatened with closure in the 1970’s, it was decided to amalgamate the school with the one in the neighbouring village of Upton, and locate in it South Walsham. The original buildings were further extended and modernised and the work was completed in 1990.
The school is highly regarded by the village and plays a vital role in the village community while also serving the communities surrounding South Walsham. There is also a pre-school, Fairhaven First Steps Pre-School, for two to four year olds which is based in the adjacent village hall.
